Old Traditions upheld At The Lodge of Agriculture

Last week saw the Annual visit of the Bristol R.A.M this is a very old tradition dating back to the Second World War. Members of 1199 lodge of Agriculture and WM Dave Wyatt all served food and cider to our Guests – a great evening and a long-standing tradition. During the earlier years of the second world war Bristol as a major port was targeted by the German air force.

On Sunday the 24th of November 1940 the city was attacked by a 50 strong bomber raid – the city centre was hit by high explosives and many incendiary bombs, sadly Freemasons Hall on Park Street was one of the buildings destroyed by fire in the first blitz on Bristol. Between 1940-1943 Bristol Freemasons started to hold meetings outside of the city. At this difficult time Bristol masons received support from the province of Somerset and Gloucestershire using several masonic premises outside the province of Bristol – one of these lodges was Harris R.A.M who still hold their June meeting at the Masonic centre in Yatton stewarded by the Lodge of Agriculture.
