Boules match at Midsomer Norton

On Tuesday 12th July a Boules Match was played, after Connaught Lodge was challenged by Westfield Pétanque club in Midsomer Norton. Mrs Diane cooper as match co-ordinator for the club, challenged her husband Tony, who is the Lodge secretary. So in the interests of maintaining domestic peace and harmony, Tony put out an appeal to the members of Connaught to form a team.

Once the rules had been explained, as many had never played before. The teams were allocated to the four rinks, battle commenced. To the surprise of the Westfield Team (who play every week) the members of Connaught Lodge became quickly adept. With the games being extremely close, a refreshment break was taken and the deciding finals commenced, with Westfield wining by a very small margin.

In appreciation of the Westfield Club hosting the evening, the Lodge gave a donation of £200 to their chosen charity, Cancer Research UK. Having had such an enjoyable evening a possible rematch is being considered.
