Mrs Effie Wilson Celebrates Her 100th Birthday

Mrs Effie Wilson celebrated her 100th Birthday on Sunday 12th June with her family, neighbours and friends at her local pub, The Puriton Inn, Near Bridgwater.

Effie’s late husband George was a founder member of Tynte Lodge No 7994 and was also a joining member of Admiral Blake Lodge No 4692 both in Bridgwater. Our Provincial Grand Almoner, Adrian Robson joined the celebrations and to wish her a Happy 100th Birthday.

Despite having limited mobility and very little eyesight due to age-related macular degeneration, Effie still lives in her own home. However sadly she regrets not being able to enjoy her hobbies any more – playing the piano, reading, watching television, playing bridge, being an observer for the Institute of Advanced Drivers and travelling around the South West with her late husband enjoying the beautiful countryside and visiting pretty villages and seaside resorts for cream teas.

Effie is extremely grateful for the support she receives from Somerset Sight and the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) and from her friends and neighbours who pop into see her regularly. She received a big surprise when cameras from the BBC Points West news team arrived to report on her party.

A very Happy 100th Birthday Effie, from all of us at the Provincial Grand Lodge of Somerset!
