My Young Brother!
At the regular meeting of Gerard Lodge on Saturday 11th December, the Master, R.W.Bro Stuart Hadler was delighted to present a certificate to W.Bro David Sage PPrSGW to celebrate his 50 years in Masonry. A keen visitor to Lodges, David is well known in Masonic circles in Clevedon, Nailsea and Keynsham as ‘My young brother’!
This meeting also marked the 40th Anniversary our Past Provincial Grand Master’s initiation into Gerard Lodge, Stuart was the Lodge’s first candidate after it had been consecrated 1981.
David was born in Palestine just after the outbreak of Word War Two in September 1939. His Bristolian father went to Jaffa (Haifa) in 1929 to be Port Berthing Master. His parents married there and David’s early years were spent in wartime Palestine and Egypt.
Returning to Bristol in 1948, he completed his schooling at St Mary Redcliffe School and then took an apprenticeship (Photo gravure) with E S & A Robinson,(external site) which later became Dickinson Robinson Group.
With the decline of the printing industry David moved in 1989 into a range of jobs; double-glazing and fax machine sales, building work, undertaking and latterly 10 years as a Court Usher at Bristol Crown Court where he built a very positive reputation with judges, barristers and staff. He retired in 2004.
Married to Diane in 1964. They have two children Richard and Elizabeth and three Grandchildren.
David is a Lewis, his father was initiated into Lydda Lodge in Palestine. David was proposed into Southey Lodge by his uncle and initiated 15 Nov 1971, he was Master in 1982. He joined joined Gerard Lodge in 1997 and was Master in 2001 and again in 2013. For 9 years he was the Lodge DC, followed by 9 years as Mentor, a position well suited to his character. He became a joining member of Sir Isaac Newton Lodge in 2015 and has served in several offices there.
In the Province David was appointed in 1988 Provincial Junior Grand Deacon, promoted in 1996, PPrGSuptWks again in 2005 PPrJGW and in 2017 Past Provincial Senior Grand Warden.
A warm friendly and welcoming face wherever you meet him “My Young Brother”, David has been a stalwart of Gerard Lodge for the last 26 years.
The meeting was attended by thirty brethren who witnessed an excellent demonstration of the first degree ceremony in addition to enjoying the presentation. The traditional festive board of turkey and Christmas pud that followed the meeting was very convivial and enjoyed by all.
