Minehead Masons Together Remember
With the centenary of the end of The Great War fast approaching, the Masons of all the Masonic Orders which meet at Minehead Masonic Hall have united in the act of purchasing a ‘There But Not There’ silhouette sculpture of an Allied Forces ‘Tommy’ which is to be displayed in the town.
The 6ft tall aluminium figure acts as a hauntingly poignant visual reminder of The Fallen of The Great War.
The
figure is produced on behalf of the charitable organisation
‘Remembered’ which is based at Royal Hospital Chelsea in London.
The
proceeds of donations and sales of their commemorative pieces
contribute towards the work of the following charities viz; The Royal
Foundation, Help For Heroes, Project Equinox, Combat Stress, The
Commonwealth War Graves Foundation and Walking With The Wounded.
It
is proposed that the figure purchased by the Brethren of Minehead will
be displayed together with the one recently purchased by the Minehead
Town Council. The final resting place of the two figures in Minehead has
yet to be decided.
An engraved metal plaque and stand to accompany
the figure has been generously donated by W.Bro. Hedley Price, the
current D.C. of Exmoor Lodge.
Thanks are due to all the Brethren belonging to Exmoor Lodge 2390, St Bernard Lodge 5361, Exmoor Mark 697, Exmoor Royal Arch Chapter 2390, Exmoor Royal Ark Mariners 697, Exmoor Preceptory Of Knights Templar 638 and St Decuman & St Dubricius Chapter 784 of The Ancient And Accepted Rite.
