Royal Arch Provincial Weekend 2023
The weather this year was bright and sunny and perfectly reflected the happy atmosphere at the annual Royal Arch Provincial Weekend at Biddeford.
This year’s event was hosted by our Grand Superintendent, Excellent Companion Ray Guthrie and Hazel. He was well supported by his team in the persons of the Deputy Grand Superintendent, Excellent Companion Clive Lambert and Penny, the Second Provincial Grand Principal, Excellent Companion Neil Hurcum and Zena, and the Third Provincial Grand Principal, Excellent Companion Geoff Lester and Fiona.
The weekend is always good fun, and this year was no exception. The fun was in the air, and friendly chat emanated from the bar, the hotel reception, and the various reception rooms.
An excellent Friday night buffet was followed by a full dancefloor until closing time. The traditional drinks reception on the Saturday marked the start of a super evening for many the companions, ladies and gentlemen who attended.
Excellent Companion David Dixon made the most important toast, to all the ladies present, in which he albeit very carefully plagiarised the response given by his wife Sara some time ago. The response came from Jenny Bennett, who as usual presented her well prepared reply in a very eloquent manner. You might even think that Jenny has done this before!
Everyone’s thanks go to Excellent Companion David Parslow and Jo for their very hard work in organising the event, and to the hardworking staff of the Durrant House Hotel.
This weekend is highly recommended as an informal, relaxed, and thoroughly enjoyable weekend away amongst friends. If you have never been please do look out for next year’s event, which will be on the 2nd and 3rd February.
