My garden focuses on growing fruit and vegetables, and some flowers. Eating vegetables are essential for a healthy and balanced diet. Minutes from fork to plate, not only involving physical activity, gardening is also a good mental exercise, being outside in the fresh air and sunshine can improve mood and make you feel rejuvenated and overall happy.
My winter veggies are now over. As the purple sprouting broccoli finished, the asparagus bed moved into production, so much so, it also benefited my neighbour! In this hot, sunny weather, the tomatoes are racing ahead, sharing their plots with aubergines, peppers and chillies.
With a good selection of fruit, grapes, raspberries, cherries, blackcurrants, apples, pears and plums, plus the usual selection of vegetables, with careful planning, selection, preserving and storing means fruit and veggies are available almost throughout the year.
