Meets at 18:30 on the last Wednesday except May and December
Months – Jan, Feb, Mar, May (1st Wed 17:00 Installation), Sep, Oct, Nov and Dec (3rd Wed)
The Lodge of Prudence and Industry No. 579 was originally founded in 1799 at Chard, meeting in the George Hotel (now named the Phoenix Hotel) on Fore Street. This Lodge met regularly until 1831 when it fell into abeyance and was eventually erased. In 1881 the Lodge was revived with its current number 1953, meeting at the Guildhall, Chard until 1897 when it moved again to its current location at The Masonic Hall behind The Phoenix Hotel in Phoenix Courtyard off Fore Street.
Today, at around the 75 mark, the Lodge is one of the largest in the Province of Somerset, drawing its members mainly from Chard and the surrounding villages. We meet eight times each year between September and May, mostly on the last Wednesday of each month at 6.30pm, following which we retire to dine and enjoy good company to top off a most enjoyable evening.
Our members are friendly and welcoming, so if you have the backing of your partner or family and share our tenets of integrity, diversity, commitment and charity, why not speak to us about joining. We enjoy a wonderful camaraderie and social life and would love to welcome you amongst us.
