Chapter of Brotherly Love No. 329
Meets at – The Masonic Hall, Hendford, Yeovil BA20 1TQ at 18.30 on the third Thursday except
February when it is the fourth Thursday. Months – February, April, June, October and November
Consecrated 16th September 1823 Meets at the Masonic Hall, Hendford, Yeovil. On the 6th November 1822 the Grand and Royal Chapter issued a Charter of Constitutions authorising a Chapter to be attached to the Lodge of Brotherly Love No. 624 and to be called the Chapter of Brotherly Love. The Charter authorised it to meet on the first Tuesday after the Full Moon in January, April, September and November. The first meeting was held on the 16th September 1823 and this distinguished Chapter has continued to meet without interruption to the present day. The reference to convocations being on a date close to the full moon was to enable Companions living in this rural area to have light to find their way home.
Although the Chapter has always held its convocations in Yeovil it was in the nearby town of Martock that Royal Arch Masonry first met in this part of South Somerset. The Lodge of Brotherly Love was issued with a Warrant, dated the 8th March 1810 and authorised to meet at the George Inn, Church Street, Martock. Three members of that Lodge; Robert Chaffey, Thomas Hamlyn and the Rev John Middleton, petitioned the ‘Moderns’ Grand and Royal Chapter to form a Royal Arch Chapter. Their wish was granted when they received a Charter to form the Mystic Stone Chapter No 117 to meet at the George Inn.
