Steve Defries Celebrates 55 years as a Freemason

The regular meeting of St Dunstan’s Lodge on 3rd June had no empty seats in the Glastonbury temple. It was attended by the Provincial Grand Master, Ray Guthrie, the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Mike Greedy, the Past Deputy Provincial Grand Master Ben Batley and many, many other distinguished brethren.

After what was generally agreed to be an excellently conducted ceremony of passing for Cameron Dawkins, Steve Defries looked like he was ready to get to the festive board. Having, however, been slipped a copy of the summons with a conveniently missed item, he was in for a surprise.

The PGM rose to congratulate W.Bro Defries on his long service to freemasonry and to thank him on behalf of all those he has helped during that time. The PGM further went on to confer W.Bro Defries with the Provincial Grand Master’s Order of Merit which, as one pointed out later, left Steve speechless for the first time in living memory!
