It’s Plain Sailing at SPGSL
The prestigious Somerset Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge had great pleasure in Passing Lt Charlie Nethercott RN on behalf of Lodge Marine. Lodge Marine only meet four times a year and have been so successful in their recruitment drive, they have needed to ask other Lodges to conduct ceremonies on their behalf (Estune Lodge being the last one)

SPGSL is a special Lodge, as all the members have been Stewards in the Craft or Royal Arch, the ritual is always fun to watch, because it will always include, Bristol Workings, Emulation Workings, Burnham on Sea Workings, Taylors Workings and in this case Lodge Marine Workings (also in some rare instances Tel Hayes Workings!) But it is always conducted with the candidates being the most important person in the room and with humility and humour!
Charlie was an excellent candidate who answered his questions in superb fashion! Members of both SPGSL and Lodge Marine took part in what was an excellent meeting, special mentions must go to Rob Hughes, Secrets (Marine) Paul Marshall SE Corner (SPGSL) Alan Woodbridge, extended Working Tools (Marine) Garry Hawkes (SPGSL) and Mike Barfoot-Franks (Marine) extended Tracing Board, as well of course Nick Male the WM.
During the meeting, the WM elect was proposed, Derrick Griffin who gladly accepted, and the Treasurer was proposed and elected – Terry Hayes, who stood to say, thank you (you fools). Simon Sparkes the current Secretary apologised for being too efficient and the whole meeting was conducted in fine SPGSL style.
This again shows that Masonry is a collective brotherhood and we should all work together, yes we all have great loyalty to our respective Mother Lodges, but Freemasonry as a whole is the most important factor. If your lodge has a backlog of members to Pass or Raise, Somerset Stewards will be only to pleased to help out, and they promise to make it a ceremony they won’t forget!
Whilst the Brethren were working the wives and partners were enjoying the sherry reception and nibbles always provided.

A special thank you must go to Yula, for all her hard work and smiling presence at Weston Masonic Centre, who confirmed her recent tan, was not in fact gravy browning!
