Age is But a Number at Portcullis
On the 80th Anniversary of VE day Portcullis Lodge initiated their second candidate of the year and in doing so demonstrated that age is ‘but a number’ when it comes to Freemasonry and that the Fraternity can be enjoyed by all regardless of age. At the March meeting, the Lodge initiated a 24-year-old candidate, this time the Master and his officers initiated Robert Clark 80 years young, just the 56 years between the two candidates!

After the Master Mike Norton opened the Lodge in the customary fashion. He called the Lodge to order and played Brother Winston Churchill’s famous speech recorded by the BBC on VE day. He then asked David Hutchins, a mere 89 years of age, to read to the brethren his very moving memories of VE day.
After the ceremony, the Master appointed Kevin Morgan as Tyler, as unfortunately Colin Thorpe the Tyler of Portcullis for the last 12 years was not going to be fit enough to take up that office again.
The Master announced that in association with the Adair Club, they will be holding a hog roast on 26th July in Langport https://www.adairclub.com/event/summer-hog-roast/
