Somerset Farmers Lodge Charity Donations and Open Day
Although the Somerset Farmers Lodge Masonic year has come to an end, activity amongst the brethren continues through charitable donations and a very successful open day. On behalf of Mary Burke, wife of late lodge member David, £250 was presented by the Worshipful Master, Barry Horsgood, to the Yeovil Hospital Charity to support the care of those suffering with prostate cancer.

On the 26th of April the famous Hanging Chapel, Langport, was opened to the public by the Somerset Farmers Lodge, with the gratefully received assistance of some of the Brethren of Portcullis Lodge. While past years’ open days have proven successful, the number of visitors was far higher this year following a successful awareness campaign on local social media pages. The brethren performed exceptionally well, providing a detailed history of the building and Freemasonry to our visitors. Charitable donations were collected on the day, totalling £145, to be donated to the Worshipful Master’s chosen charity, Multiple Sclerosis.
During the open day, the presentation of a £1500 donation to MacMillan Nurses was made by the brethren of the lodge. Charity collection will continue throughout the closed season, with a ladies lunch in May, and a skittles night expected later in the year.
