Raising Dennis
It was possibly the hottest day of the year so far. The sun was shining. There was a slight breeze, bringing a Mistrel spirit to sleepy Bath. Thursday 1st May was, in fact, perfect weather for a sunny seaside sojourn. But the brethren of Bournemouth, bucking the bank holiday weekend trend for promenade perambulations, left their coastal idyll for a fraternal visit en-masse to Bath for Masonic perambulations!
It was the closing meeting of Royal Cumberland No.41’s masonic year, at which Brother Dennis was raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason. The meeting was a lodge team effort with members of varying years’ service sharing the load, using the unique Royal Cumberland Workings; some with decades under their belts, others with but a few years. W.Bro. Matthew presided from the chair, while W.Bros. Craig, Richard and Vince ably assisted, and Bro. Ryan, our inner guard and the newest member to contribute, gave an outstanding delivery of the working tools.
The company retired to the dining room to enjoy a trencherman’s style festive board of steak pie with wines and ales, after which the Bournemouth brethren were taken for a digestif or three at a nearby hostelry.
W.Bro. Matthew now has the summer to prepare for the installation of his successor. Bro. Bob, in the Chair of King Solomon, again using Royal Cumberland’s Workings!
