Lodge of Science Continue with their Community Engagement at Wincanton Town History Day

Once again the Lodge of Science threw open their doors to the public in association with the town for history day. Apparently special emphasis was on the use of horses back in the day. Well the Lodge being formed in 1836 we would have been well versed in horse transportation then but sadly no records about who what or when could be found! Nevertheless we were visited by around 90 members of the public ranging in age from some very interested 20 plus year olds to others of indeterminate age, even dogs were admitted!
Many were amazed at the tardis like building the Masonic Hall is and we’re treated to history lessons ranging from the French Prisoners of War held at Wincanton circa 1800 who founded a Masonic Lodge in the town and artefacts from the time to the foundation of this Lodge, its history and some of its characters, but no horses!
Conducted tours of the Temple were made to almost all of our visitors some of whom were dressed in period costume. Informative leaflets regarding Freemasonry were made available and handed out to many visitors.
We also ran a free cafe with a splendid choice of cakes and again this was busy all day.
Altogether a very successful and enjoyable day for the Lodge and the town.
