Heartfelt thanks from local Freemasons
Several Brethren from St Alphege Lodge in Bath, have recently benefitted from the excellent service provided by the Royal United Hospital Emergency and Cardiology departments, as have many other Freemasons in Somerset and Wiltshire.
Consequently, they have initiated a campaign to raise as much money as possible for the welfare of the hard-working staff, via the RUHX Charity.
St Alphege Lodge has started the process with a donation of £2,500 and invite anyone who may have also undergone a similar experience, and would like to make a personal contribution, or can encourage their Lodge to join this initiative, to contact:
St Alphege’s Charity Steward, Neil Hawes – nbhawes1@talktalk.net with a copy to St Alphege’s Treasurer, David Dixon – ddixon4095@btinternet.com
Once a date has been arranged for a presentation, they will be invited to join a photocall at the RUH.
David Hogg from St Alphege Lodge reports on his recent experience of a much-maligned NHS and RUH:

“After a few months of breathlessness, which I assumed was due to the remnants of a cold/flu/RSV/Covid/old age/incorrect blood-pressure medication, or a combination of them all, I began to assume that I might have an underlying problem as the condition was worsening: the fact that my home blood pressure monitor failed to record, indicated that I was at fault, and my pulse rate dropping to 40 bpm, confirmed that.
A request for an appointment with my doctor resulted in the suggestion that I get myself to A&E as soon as possible.
I arrived at 10am on Tuesday 14th January, was seen within 10 minutes, and in a bed on their Cardiology department that afternoon.
Diagnosed with Bradycardia, my Pacemaker was fitted on Thursday afternoon and I was home the next day!
Wow, what an adventure and I can’t fault the professionalism of all concerned – NHS at its very best.
What really stood out was the care and compassion of all the nursing and support staff. I was treated with so much respect and empathy by a happy team of professionals, eager to please and proud to serve – a truly humbling experience.
The NHS is only as good as its people, and they all provide a service that is beyond exceptional”.
