King Alfred gives a helping hand

We all know how hard times have fallen on everyone in society, especially post Covid. But the people who have been most affected are those that are most vulnerable, these being rough sleepers, the homeless, and those in temporary accommodation.
Enter Somewhere To Go – A local charity in Weston that provides a safe space, hot meals and shower facilities.
They recently acquired an old Church on the Boulevard as a base for their operations and regularly care for up to 40 people a day and anything up to 2,000 individuals in a year. Along side the facilities they provide, they also have an in house nurse, offer mental health support, drugs and alcohol services as well as various other things such as registered addresses and legal support.
They also have a shop which funds 50% of the overhead costs, which as you can imagine is quite expensive giving the cost of living crisis we are all facing.
This is where the brethren at King Alfred come in, through fund raising at our Christmas party, we were able to raise £850 for them and presented the cheque to the general manager last Friday.
Through the help of the Somerset Freemasons, we have helped provide people with Somewhere To Go.
