Lodge News

Legend bids a fond farewell to Birnbeck Lodge.

On the 15th March Sydney Brailey had his last meeting at Birnbeck Lodge, as their longest serving member. Syd is also a Grand Officer and a lovely man, who would take time out to help anybody. He has been a Freemason for over 50 years, at the meeting Birnbeck Lodge also made him an Honorary member, Syd did say only to keep him quiet!

Whilst serving in the RAF, Syd was initiated into the General John J Pershing Lodge,Maastricht, on the register of the Grand East of the Netherlands. Syd is a well known Mason in the Province being a subscribing member to 19 Lodges and side orders and that doesn’t include his honorary memberships!
Syd will be moving to Kings Lynn to be near his family, but will be looking to continue his Masonry in East Anglia.

At age 92 he was going to attempt a parachute jump for charity, but his doctor said he was allowed to jump out of the plane, but due to his heart condition and the cabin not being pressurised, he was not able to fly in the first place! So a family member did it for him!

Syd will be very much missed and meetings won’t be quite the same without him. We wish him all the very best and hope he enjoys his Masonry in his new home
