The Travelling Trowel starts at Fairway Lodge

The new season opened for Fairway Lodge with visit to Long Sutton Golf Club on Wednesday 7th September. Twenty four members and guests took part in the competition. The course was in very good condition, many players commented on the improvements that have been made to the course and club house over the past year. Amazingly no one got wet, despite all the heavy rain in the other parts of the Province that day.

The meeting after golf was held at the Hanging Chapel, home of Portcullis Lodge. A Provincial fraternal visit and a visit by members of Corinthian Pillar Lodge swelled the number attending to over fifty brethren. They witnessed the Master, Scott McKechnie and his team pass Bro Mark Pike of the Corinthian Pillar Lodge No 7552 in a very good ceremony.

Following the ceremony Assistant PGM, W.Bro Tony Guthrie presented the Master with the Travelling Trowel, or Travelling Trowel number 5 to be precise. Members of Fairway will take the Trowel to Rural Philanthropic Lodge No 291 at Burnham on 7th October. Trowel Programme details

The brethren retired to the Langport Arms for an excellent carvery, the usual toast were taken. Sadly it was possibly the last time in the Province that the toast to the Queen and the Craft was proposed.

The golf results were announced by W.Bro Brian Pollard. The winners of the Harry Owen Hughes Cup, best aggregate pair from any Somerset Lodge were W.Bros Tony Guthrie and Scott McKechnie. (groans from fellow golfers!)
