St Alphege Lodge supports the Freewheelers (Blood Bikers)

On a wet and windy night the St Alphege worshipful master, David, and the Secretary, Jeff, battled against the elements and road closures to visit the Freewheelers (Blood Bikers) at their monthly meeting near Bridgwater; the elements serving as a poignant reminder of the challenges facing the Riders on their regular missions.

The purpose of the visit was to present a cheque for £4,000 as part of the celebrations for St Alphege Lodge’s Centenary and in recognition of the wonderful service the Freewheelers provide to our community.

Our donation will be used to equip a new motorcycle, making it fit for purpose to undertake their invaluable work.

Statistics from their website, show that their calls have increased significantly during the past 12 months due to Covid19 and the fact they ran 24/7 for five months during 2020. They increased by nearly 850 calls from the previous year and now average 22 jobs a day, travelling a total of 225,000 miles to deliver them!

Each urgent and non-urgent call enables the NHS to redirect its funds and every emergency call helps to save the life of a patient.

That is quite an achievement and the members of St Alphege Lodge are very pleased to be able to help them.

Ed: Congratulations to St Alphege Brethren for such a generous donation.
