There were two 50 year certificates presented at the last Alfred & Guthrum Lodge meeting. As it was also a provincial fraternal visit, led by W Bro Richard J Winter, there were a large number of brethren at the meeting to see and congratulate W Bro Peter Tinney and W Bro Michael Webb as they received their certificates from RW Bro Stanley Hopkins, who they had both requested to make the presentation.
Peter born at Stone Allerton and educated in Somerset was an active member of Wedmore young farmers, and his time in farming is where he first became friends with Stanley, following him as Somerset Young farmers County Chairman. This offered him the opportunity for many activities such as public speaking, debating, drama and Stock judging, while running a traditional Dairy farm.
Although his father was not a mason, he was introduced into masonry by his Father in Law . Initiated into free masonry on 14th April 1971 into the Alfred and Guthrum lodge, he went through the chair of the lodge in 1979. He is keen on his gardening and Bee keeping.
Michael, born in London, was initiated into the Stoke Newington lodge in December 1971, at a double ceremony with his brother David. Qualified as a Chartered accountant Michael moved to Winscombe in 1971 and set up his own practice in 1975. He joined Alfred & Guthrum in 1977 and went through the chair of the lodge in 1988, where he was also lodge treasurer for 10 years.
Michael, appointed as active Junior grand deacon in 1994 he has gone on to hold a number of Provincial offices, being Provincial Treasurer from 2009 to 2017, and was appointed to Grand lodge as PPGDC in 2010, and promoted to PJGD in 2018.
