John and John receive 50 Years Certificates
King Alfred 50 Year Certificates
King Alfred lodge held their first normal meeting in the Weston Masonic centre on Friday 8th October. Everyone was pleased to return to lodge, and the meeting was the installation of their new Master W Bro Steve Taylor.
The meeting was an important occasion for two of the lodges more senior members, as W Bro John Elmont and W Bro John Cole both received their 50 year certificates.
The lodge was honoured by VW Bro John Winston, who presented the two certificates. He outlined their Masonic career, and first was John Elmont. John was fed, clothed and educated at the Junior and Senior Masonic schools in Bushey, Hertfordshire for 10 years, and considered he should join masonry to repay the debt he owed.
John was initiated into the King Alfred lodge on 13th November 1970 and became its Master in 1982. John has had a busy Masonic career, holding Charity Steward, Almoner and Treasurer posts in King Alfred. He was appointed active Provincial Junior Deacon in 1988 and promoted to past Provincial Grand Warden in 1993. John is a very active member of King Alfred Lodge and many of the side degrees.
The second recipient of the 50 year certificate, John Cole was initiated into freemasonry on 16th January 1971. John was proposed by his late Father-in-law, who had intended to initiate him, but unfortunately he passed away before he could do this. With business requirements John has lived in many parts of the Uk, but finally settled in Hutton . He joined King Alfred Lodge in 2002. Johns first Provincial rank in 2005 was in Surrey as an active steward. In 2007 he was appointed in Somerset to past Provincial Senior Grand Deacon. In 2010 John became the Somerset provincial Communication officer as Provincial Grand Superintendent of Works, a position he held for 6 years.John was appointed to Grand rank as PAGDC in 2014 and promoted to PJGD in 2018. John has a love of Classic cars and for over 20 years he organised Masonic Classic car events and promotions raising the magnificent total of £503,000.
Some notable events were 80 British cars to Buckingham Palace in 2006 to celebrate HM the Queens 80th Birthday, and following this in 2016 with 90 cars on her 90th Birthday. John is again an active member of King Alfred lodge, being its communications officer.
This was truly and enjoyable evening for all the members and guests with a superb installation ceremony followed by an enjoyable festive board.
