Support for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal

The following is a letter from the future Provincial Grand Charity Steward, Bro Graham Puddy, on supporting the Poppy 2020 appeal

https://www.britishlegion.org.uk/

Following the announcement by the Provincial Grand Master in his address at the Special Annual Meeting of last week, I write to introduce myself as the successor to David Maddern as Provincial Grand Charity Steward. David will be continuing his work as the Director of Charity and Care.

Whilst my appointment does not formally take effect until March next year the handover process has begun and going forward, I will be your initial point of contact for any charity matters where you think the Province might be of assistance. I will do my utmost to support you wherever possible.

Whilst writing, you will be aware that The Royal British Legion has commenced its annual poppy appeal and like so many this year has had to adapt to the threat of Covid-19. With some people unable to leave their homes as they normally would do to find a poppy, and with many of the charity’s collectors unable to carry out face to face collections, they will require more support than ever.

The Masonic Province of Somerset would like to show its support for the Somerset Branch of the Royal British Legion and on this basis would encourage your Lodge to make a donation to this most worthy of causes.

If this is something that your Lodge is able to support, please issue a cheque made payable to “Somerset Masonic Charity” and forward to me at the address details below. The Somerset Masonic Charity will endeavour to provide match funding of Lodge donations towards this appeal. By coming together as a Province I am sure we can make a difference.

I look forward to working with you over the coming years and building on the good Charitable work that Freemasonry within Somerset has done and I am sure will continue to do so in support of those in less fortunate circumstances.

My best wishes to you and the Lodge.
Kind regards.
Graham.
