The 2022 SMFA Annual Lunch Report

The 2022 Annual Lunch of the Somerset Masonic Friendship Association took place at Somerset County Cricket Club, in the Atkinson Pavilion on Sunday 2nd October.  Charlie Barker, in welcoming the 124 diners, thanked everybody for coming along on a sunny day to have a wonderful lunch in good company on comfy seats, when they could have been staggering 26 miles in the London Marathon instead!  He commented upon the number, lower than in the past, but reflective of the general trend in Masonry (and elsewhere) – we know, and respect, that some are still concerned about joining groups and sitting close to others.

Charlie thanked Ray and Hazel Guthrie, as well as others, for finding the time in busy calendars, especially as Ray had been to down the Cornwall Annual Convocation the day before and of course is about to become busier than ever as our new PGM.  As Charlie reminded us all – Masonry is just a hobby….

A wonderful meal was served to us by Ben, Georgia and their team, and the camaraderie extended over lunch and well beyond.  As ever, the company was excellent and all went home replete, at least two of whom then fell asleep in the garden in the warm sunshine…
