The Annual Inter Order Golf Day 2022

Monday the 15th of August saw the annual inter Order Golf Challenge and what a day it was 4 teams of 6 players representing Craft (Captained by David Flack), Chapter (Captained by David Dixon), Mark (Captained by Tony Guthrie) and Knights Templar (Captained by Jon Mansell) who won this event in 2021.

The event was organised by Jon Mansell and hosted at Mendip Spring Golf Course in Congresbury, the weather was cooler than the previous days however the course served us well considering the lack of rain on the course. The event was underway at 13:00 with the four captains leading the way.

The day proved to be a great success with everyone enjoying the whole experience, the true Masonic feeling of Brotherly Love (for the game) Relief (from a dodgy lie) and Truth (the actual number of strokes taken on each hole) was ever present. There was some good golf played and speaking for myself some interesting golf swings and the shout of fore! and new ball was very well versed.

After the Golf, the Teams enjoyed a superb 2 course meal and refreshments during which many light-hearted discussions could be heard regarding wayward drives, fat chips and missed putts along with the usual “If Only” and “Maybe” comments, a big thankyou to Mendip Spring for the catering and service that was given.

The top individual score of the day came from Ray Guthrie from Team Chapter with a stableford score of 43 points (very impressive).

The winning team was the Mark degree headed by Tony Guthrie consisted of Malcolm Head, Richard Stone, Mark Fountain, Gordon MacFarlane and John Nicolson the winning team also received a fine bottle of wine, well done to all who competed.

If you are interested in playing, please contact the Team Captains. It is open to all Somerset Masons with current handicaps.

The winning team being presented their deserved trophy and a bottle of wine each to celebrate the victory.
